New Orleans' Pop-Up Restaurants

Not to be left behind in the new food craze, here is a list of some of Nola's current pop-up eateries:

O! Vegasm

Vegan Sunday brunch 11am -3pm. As of November 27th, 2011 it is located at St. Roch Tavern (1200 St. Roch) in the Bywater. Verify current address before making the trek (see their facebook page). Currently 2 plate brunch for $15, plus tip! I can't wait to try this one out!

McClure's Barbecue

Opening Tuesday, November 15, 2011! Dante's Kitchen (736 Dante Street) Tuesday nights, 6 pm 'til...  this should be barbecue at its finest.  Slow cooked brisket, peach wood roasted pulled pork and chicken, four cheese macaroni, corn and jalepeno molasses bread.  Everything done the slow way.  Served family style. $12 + $1/beer

MVBurger
Sundays from 5pm at Slim Goodies on Magazine.  Rumor has it they make their own buns and ketchup.  And do a knock-out job on chili cheese fries.

Noodles and Pie
Located at Coulis, across from Touro.  Ramen and pie are on the plate at this pop-up operated by some of the folks from Dante's Kitchen.  The concept is cool; but the ramen leaves much to be desired.  As a confessed New Orleans Vegetarian, I went with the Vegetarian ramen ($8).  While flavorful, it was a bit too heavy.  This was my very first real ramen, so take my critique with a grain of salt.  The pies are made with lard.  I tried the lemon custard with black pepper and the apple ($4/slice).  They were wholly mediocre. (I didn't try the crust so I can't testify as to whether it is worth the lard.  But butter is so tasty; is lard really necessary? Maybe it's cheaper than butter.) Would I go back? There are alot of other restaurants out there yet to be tried, so it's not a priority.

Tsai
Vegetarian Taiwanese street food-inspired pop-up just had their grand pop Saturday July 23rd at the Dragon's Den (435 Esplanade).  They will be serving locally sourced fare Saturdays from 6 p.m.

Wandering Buddha
Hi Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude) pop-up featuring vegetarian and vegan Korean fare inspired by chef Colleen Cronin's South Korean family recipes. Open Tuesday-Sunday 5pm until 12am.  Call first to confirm! (504-945-4446)

City Greens (no longer a pop up. soon to be a real restaurant)
A salad eatery.  Working its way to permanent status at 909 Poydras.  Their formal opening will take place later in December 2011.

An ice cream speakeasy?  Sundays in the By Water?  To be confirmed!

Heard of others?  Let me know!
